UNMASK
with Kensley Mericci
Hi! I'm Kensley Mericci. I am an autistic content creator. I help other high masking autistic women to process adult autism diagnoses. My special interest is the correlation between complex trauma and autism in high-masking women. I am self studied, having begun my research in 2019. It is my passion to help others to understand themselves while knowing they are not alone in the process.
I spent my childhood being emotionally abused and neglected by my caretakers and counterparts at school. I felt alone and isolated throughout my childhood, and consistently struggled to understand why I was feeling this way, and why those around me treated me differently. I moved away from my hometown in 2019 after ending an abusive long-term relationship with my first long-term boyfriend, dropping out of college and cutting contact with my family in an attempt to understand my childhood and heal. After spending most of my time researching, speaking with healthcare professionals and pursuing formal diagnoses, it turns out I was a high-masking undiagnosed autistic. After a long healing journey, I began creating content to recount my experiences and connect with others who had endured similar trauma. In 2022 I founded my business UNMASK.
For the last 2 1/2 years I have grown my purpose-led business UNMASK across social media platforms, reaching over 10 million people. The purpose of UNMASK is to help women aged 25-44 in processing a high masking autism diagnosis. I am also an invisible disabilities rights activist, driven by pioneering inclusivity initiatives to allow public spaces to become more accessible to those with invisible disabilities.
While it is my greatest passion to help serve my autistic peers, it pains me deeply to put a price on my services and resources. I understand deeply how difficult it is to find a consistent source of income as a disabled woman, let alone deeply impactful resources to help navigate the complexities of a late autism diagnosis and invisible disabilities. As a result, I found a way to fuel my business and provide my services free of charge to those in need. To do so, I have the opportunity to convert my business from a sole proprietorship into a non-profit organization. That way, large companies and government grants can allocate the funding needed to allow me to expand my reach into the community with tangible resources and accessibility aids, create the freedom needed to innovate in the public sector regarding disability rights within the government, and provide services and resources to autistic women across the globe for free.
To do so, I am asking those in my audience who are able and willing to contribute towards helping me achieve this goal to donate funds to allow me to register UNMASK as a non profit entity with the federal and provincial governments in my country (Canada). Your contribution is invaluable to me, as well as the millions of women that this change will enable me to support. To send a donation, please click the button below.
XO, Kensley
